FREEING ARCHITECTURE

Architect Junya Ishigami has earned widespread international acclaim for his work, including an AIJ (Architectural Institute of Japan) Prize for Architectural Design for his debut project--the Kanagawa Institute of Technology KAIT Workshop--and a Golden Lion at the Venice Architecture Biennale. This much-anticipated monograph, the first in eight years, presents 17 of his projects, including the Park Vijversburg Visitor Center in the Netherlands, completed in 2017, plus several works in progress such as a French restaurant in Ube, Art Biotop in Nasu, and extensions to the Polytechnic Museum in Moscow, setting out the concepts plus Ishigami's underlying personal architectural philosophy for each in richly expressive and eminently readable text, with generous double-page drawings and photographs.
Freeing Architecuture was published in conjunction with the Fondation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain as the catalog for a major solo exhibition of Ishigami's work at the Fondation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain in Paris. Japanese and English editions are available.
