Yo Shimada: Everyday Design Everyday

The houses designed by Yo Shimada - born in 1972 and leader of Kobe-based Tato Architects - are highly ambiguous. They stimulate recognition by the residents and people around them, and induce new discoveries.
Simple diversity, dynamic abstractness, heteronomous autonomy, large-scale details, newly-built ruins, furniture staircases, etc.: a house with rich variation is created when one thing and another meet at a given place. This becomes a trigger to have an active life full of discoveries.
Together with texts from Shimada's diary and acclaim from clients overseas, this book examines Shimada's design methodology, in which an awareness combined with a small awareness elsewhere ultimately brings a design concept of a house.
